Rotuma returns

IT has been more than a decade since their last outing at the Coca Cola games finals in Suva.

Rotuma High School will appear in their famous yellow and black uniforms for the first time since they last participated at the event in 2001.

It took the teachers nearly two years to finally get athletics running into the students' vein to finally make their way to Suva.

Yesterday seven athletes from RHS participated at the Athletics Fiji Easter Championship at the National Stadium. The team arrived in Suva last week to prepare for the Coke games.

Team official Aferete Mua said they were happy to compete amongst the best athletes in Fiji.

"We came so early because of the boat problem. We want to come here and test these athletes and see how they can adapt to the atmosphere in Suva," he said.

Being nervous coming from an isolated island and competing at such national event, the seven athletes impressively showed their potential and that nothing is impossible.

Gabriel Thomas was second in the men's 400meters finals. However the team management was happy to identify areas which they needed to work on prior to the national finals.
