Special Day for Rotuma Duo

by Justine Mannan

It was a special day for Rotuma duo Natalie Carol and Eta Kapaiwai who won silver and bronze respectively in the U13 girls Shot put at the FMF Chow Games at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

It was a day they will never forget as it was the first time for the Motusa Primary School pair to participate at the Chow Games and win medals.

Carol recorded a distance of 10.83 metres while Kapaiwai threw 10:35 metres, but it was not enough to take over Makita Senitivia of Namosi South who threw 10:95 metres to win gold.

Bronze winner, Kapaiwai said this was the biggest achievement for them as they did not think they would actually win medals.

"We have worked so hard to be at this Chow Games and it's our first time taking part and I'm really happy taking something back home," Kapaiwai said.

"This will be a memorable event for us especially when it is our last year in primary school, so this is huge for us.

"We are really proud to be here representing Rotuma."

Meanwhile, Carol is happy to win silver in her favourite event

"Shot put is my favourite event," Carol said.

"This has been a memorable two days for us, we have met a lot of athletes and made a lot of friends."

The duo thanked their coaches David Pierri and Chris Pau'u for their guidance as well as the parents and teachers.
